Birth of Athi Varadhar

A temple for Lord Athi Varadhar has been consecrated in Balaji Gardens, at Kelambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was God's compassion for the crowds milling and jostling through serpentine queues to worship the Lord at Kancheepuram, that an idea of an Athi Varadhar temple was born.

The idol of Athi Varadhar is a 9 ft tall standing deity, specially carved from a single fig tree by sthapathis from Nagercoil.

Temple Structure

The temple took shape in a record feat of few months in a spacious locale, an open and unconventional amalgam of modern yet traditional structure.

The temple also has Lord Balaji at the rear in his entire splendor. A twin structure next to it has a temple for Shirdi Sai Baba, and Athi Vinayakar. Athi Vinayakar in a standing posture which is rare in Tamil Nadu (also carved out of a fig tree) catches you with a surprise as he captivates your heart with an impish smile

Temple Sanctification and Divine Presence

After the idol was carved, he was taken to Kancheepuram for special puja along with Lord Varadaraja Perumal. He was later brought back to Kelambakkam where he was immersed in the traditional oils for a period of 90 days before installation.

Athi Varadhar was consecrated at Balaji Gardens, Kelambakkam, on the auspicious day of Panguni Uthram on April 6, 2020, amidst chanting of the Vedas and fully endorsed by the divine presence of 3 Garudas who hovered round the sky. Is there more proof required of the complete affirmation of the blessings by our Lord Athi Varadhar?
